The Effects of Social Media in Young Girls

Today, we are bombarded everywhere with images of what society deems “beautiful”,  from the Internet to magazines and television.  But how do all of these images affect young girls? Miribel Tran, a high school junior, writes about this in her article, "The Effect of Social Media in Young Girls". In her opinion, trying to emulate these models and pop culture icons leads to a “waterfall” effect:

1. Social media is prevalent in society today, and it has been scientifically linked withcausing depression in young girls.

2. Depression is linked with obesity in young girls.

3. Obesity is also linked with lower grades in young girls.

4. Ultimately, social media is affecting the health and education of young girls nationwide.

So just how should young girls avoid this “waterfall” effect? Read her article on The Huffington Post here.
